New prices coming to Navy Gateway Inns and Suites

Effective Oct. 1, room rates will increase at Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) worldwide.

The change is due to NGIS becoming self-sufficient (the program no longer will receive appropriated funds). Room rates must cover operating costs plus recapitalization to maintain and improve the facility. New room rates are within TDY and Defense Travel per diem lodging rates.

The conversion to Non-Appropriated Funds is in direct response to the Secretary of Defense’s guidance to field a larger and more lethal joint force by exploring efficiencies in core business functions that will free up funds for higher priority military operations.

NGIS will continue to provide travelers comfortable and welcoming lodging.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the rates increase?

Oct. 1, 2018

How much will rates increase?

The rate adjustment will vary based on location. In the EURAFSWA Region, rates will increase $11-$31 per night depending on room type. Rates will continue to be within TDY and Defense Travel per diem lodging rates.

Yes.

Will my rate change in the middle of my stay?

If you check in before Oct. 1 and check out after Oct. 1, yes your rate will change in the middle of your stay. Before Oct. 1, you will be charged the existing rate. On Oct. 1, your rate will change to the new rate. Your invoice will reflect the different rates.

Why are rates increasing?

The increase is required in order for NGIS to cover its operating costs, recapitalize to maintain and improve facilities, and meet Department of Defense (DoD) lodging adequacy standards.

Why is the conversion to NAF operations necessary?

The Office of the Secretary of Defense has directed all DoD lodging programs to convert from Appropriated Funds to Non-Appropriated Funds operations. The conversation will create efficiencies in core business functions that free up funds for higher priority military operations.

Will customers planning TDY, PCS or leisure travel be able to know the rates at their planned destination?

Will the rate increase affect Navy Lodge?

No. Navy Lodge is aligned and operated by the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM). For Navy Lodge room rates, please contact the respective Navy Lodge.

Are other Services taking this action?

Yes. The Office of the Secretary of Defense has directed all DoD government lodging programs to transition to all Non-Appropriated Funds (self-sustaining) operations.
